Condolences following the tragic death of a Youth Counsellor in Calgary

The Association of Counselling Therapists of Alberta (ACTA) is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Deborah Onwu, a Youth Counsellor.  We wish to express our deepest condolences and heartfelt support to her family, friends, co-workers and all those who knew and cared for Deborah.

It is tragic that Deborah’s life was cut short, and even more so that her life was lost while caring for vulnerable youth of our society at a child and youth mental health treatment facility in Calgary.  Child and Youth Care Counsellors believe that all children have a right to be cared for and given a chance. They sacrifice much to care for the vulnerable youth of our society, but such a tragic loss of life is never acceptable.

To our colleagues of the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta, we acknowledge and honour the valuable services you provide.

At this very sad time, we wish to support all those experiencing grief or trauma regarding Deborah’s passing to take good care of themselves and reach out for help. And again, ACTA expresses heartfelt condolences to all of Deborah’s family and friends.
